The verbs «ser» and «estar» present difficulties when being learned. In English, the verb to be performs the function of both, something that doesn’t happen in Spanish. Intermediate level students still often make mistakes when using these verbs. We can say that they are among the most difficult to learn in Spanish, as sometimes both can be used, but in other cases, only one of the two is appropriate.
